Our Story
Slöjd & Heritage Craft by Luke
A Life Shaped by Wood, Tradition, and Simple Tools
My name is Luke, and every knife I make is rooted in the old Scandinavian tradition of slöjd — the belief that useful things should be made with simple tools, skilled hands, and a deep respect for the natural world. I began carving as a young boy, inspired by the TV bushcraft teachings of Ray Mears in the 1990s. What started as childhood fascination grew into a lifelong passion for woodworking, craft, and the quiet focus that comes from working with ones own hands.
Hand Tools Only — The Old Way
All of my knives are made using only hand tools: an axe, a knife, and my own two hands. No power tools. No machines. No shortcuts.
Every cut is done by eye, without measurements, just as rural Scandinavian homesteaders and farmers once worked. Problems are solved with skill, not equipment — and beauty comes from the maker’s touch, not a machine’s precision.
From Tree to Workshop — An Organic Process
I personally select each tree, fell it myself, and process every piece of timber using only hand tools. The wood is carried back to my workshop on foot, the same way men did for generations before modern machinery existed. This makes every knife an entirely organic, human process from start to finish, which is sadly becoming a rarity in todays world.
Traditional Blades & Natural Finishes
I use only hand‑forged blades from traditional UK blacksmiths — forged by hammer and anvil, not factory presses. Handles are finished with natural linseed‑oil paints, all hand‑painted and hand‑finished, staying true to the Swedish heritage crafts that inspired my work.
Craft as a Way of Life
After many failed attempts at regular 9–5 jobs, my ADHD and chronic insomnia made it impossible for me to thrive in that world. Craft gave me a way forward — a way to build a steady income while pouring all of my creativity, focus, and passion into something meaningful. This work isn’t just a job to me. It’s the thing that keeps me grounded and fills my life with purpose.
Carving the Past Into the Present
Every knife I make carries the spirit of Swedish folk art, traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship, and the humble tools that once shaped rural life for centuries. My goal is simple: to create honest, beautiful and functional tools that honour the past while inspiring others to pick up the knife and carve!
Thankyou!
